Armada arrives
A carrier strike group led by the John C. Stennis and the Nimitz moved into the Persian Gulf on May 23 as a show of force off Iran's coast. The group also included the amphibious assault ship Bonhomme Richard and it's own strike group that includes two landing ships and 2,100 Marines from the 13th MEU.
