The Marine Corps awarded Ladson, S.C.-based Force Protection Inc. another $222 million order for blast-proof vehicles to protect troops in Iraq.
The order, announced Tuesday, is for 395 Category I and 60 Category II Mine Resistant, Ambush Protected vehicles, expected to be delivered by December 2008, the Defense Department said in a statement.
The heavily armored vehicles have a V-shaped hull and a raised chassis that helps deflect blasts from improvised explosive devices.
The Corps had already ordered another 1,856 MRAP vehicles from Force Protection since November.
The Corps wants to purchase 3,700 MRAPs and has contracted with eight manufacturers to produce them.
