Car crash kills airman at Minot
Posted : Saturday Jul 7, 2007 8:34:28 EDT
A car crash claimed the life of one airman and injured another Tuesday.
Senior Airman Adam Barrs, 20, was killed in the single-vehicle accident. Barrs was a communications navigation missile systems journeyman assigned to the 5th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Minot Air Force Base, N.D.
“Airman Barrs was a bright, hardworking and dedicated airman,” said Col. Bruce C. Emig, 5th Bomb Wing commander. “We are all saddened by this loss, and our base community will keep Barrs’ family, friends and co-workers in our thoughts and prayers.”
The vehicle’s driver, Stephen Garrett, is in critical condition at Trinity Hospital in Minot, according to the Minot Daily News. The Air Force declined to discuss the driver’s rank or status.
The Daily News cited a North Dakota Highway Patrol report saying the vehicle failed to navigate a curve, left the road, spun into a tree and caught fire. Garrett was able to exit the vehicle, but Barrs was pronounced dead on the scene. Both airmen were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.
