WICHITA, Kan. — A Wichita man pleads guilty to falsely claiming he had a Purple Heart.
Albert Barker, 58, pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Wichita to one count of falsely representing himself in January 2006 to having been awarded the medal.
The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the military wounded or killed in the line of duty.
Baker’s defense attorney, D. Lee McMaster, declined to comment.
Sentencing is set for July 2. Baker faces up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
In the plea deal, the government agreed to drop a second similar count. Prosecutors also agreed to seek the low end of sentencing guidelines.
