SANTA FE, N.M. — Gov. Bill Richardson says a state veterans museum should be located in Las Cruces as a task force has unanimously recommended.
Richardson said Thursday veterans supported having the museum in the southern New Mexico city.
The governor created the Veterans Museum Task Force earlier this year to find a site for the museum. The group consisted of veterans from around the state and from all branches of service.
Las Cruces was among six communities vying for the museum. The others were Carlsbad, Fort Stanton, Rio Rancho, Angel Fire and Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs John Gracie says the museum will preserve and protect New Mexico’s legacy of military service for future generations.
