BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says a roadside bomb has killed an American soldier in southern Iraq.
A statement says Saturday’s blast struck near a vehicle carrying the Multi-National Division-Center soldier in Amarah.
Amarah is a mainly Shiite city that saw fierce clashes between militias and U.S.-Iraqi forces earlier this year until anti-U.S. cleric Muqtada al-Sadr declared a cease-fire.
The death raises to at least 4,181 members of the U.S. military who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
