2009 Basic Allowance for Subsistence

The Basic Allowance for Subsistence is linked to, and changes with, the Agriculture Department’s food-cost index. The 2009 BAS rates represent an increase of 10 percent over 2008. The new rates as of Jan. 1:
Officers
(including commissioned officers, warrant officers and aviation cadets)
$223.04 per month
Enlisted
(almost everyone who has completed basic training)
$323.87 per month
