PEMBINA, N.D. — Federal officials say an Army deserter has been arrested at the North Dakota border after returning to the U.S. from Canada.
A statement from the Customs and Border Protection agency says Braxton Hissong of St. Stephen, S.C., was arrested Thursday at the Pembina border crossing.
Customs and Border Protection spokesman Christopher Misson said the 21-year-old Hissong had been in Canada and was on a bus headed back to the U.S. When passengers on the bus were checked for identification at the Pembina border crossing, authorities discovered Hissong was wanted on a felony warrant for desertion, Misson said.
“He was very compliant,” Misson said. “He was taken to the Pembina County Sheriff’s Office in Cavalier. U.S. Army officials will send somebody to take custody of him.”
