For the second time in less than a month, an Air Force MQ-1 Predator has crashed in Afghanistan.
The latest accident happened about 1:50 a.m. local time Tuesday, according to Air Forces Central Command. A Predator also went down over southern Afghanistan on Jan. 15.
The remote-controlled plane, used for surveillance and attack missions, crashed while taking off from a location in eastern Afghanistan that AFCent would not disclose. The crash marks the 59th loss of an Air Force Predator since 1997.
Most recent Predator accidents have been linked to mechanical and electrical problems that aircrews could not overcome.
