Zombie film twist: Osama as flesh-eating ghoul

Just when you thought you had seen every possible variation of zombie flick, you’re reminded that this genre, like its protagonists, keeps coming back from the dead.

And this one has an irresistible twist for military moviegoers. In “Osombie and the Axis of Evil Dead,” none other than al-Qaida mastermind Osama bin Laden has returned from his watery grave as a flesh-eating ghoul to lead an army of flesh-eating ghouls on a mission to eat the flesh of every last Western infidel remaining in Afghanistan.

“Osombie is an independently-produced, feature-length film packed with violence, mayhem, guns, blood and discussions about Pokemon. Oh, and zombies. Lots of zombies,” according to the film’s Kickstarter web page, where donations are being accepted to wrap up post-production.

The joyously delirious plot:

Dusty, a yoga instructor from Colorado, is on a desperate rescue mission to save her crazy brother Derek, a conspiracy theorist who is convinced Osama Bin Laden is still alive, despite having been buried at sea.

In Afghanistan, Dusty falls in with a team of NATO spec-ops troops on a secret mission. It turns out that Derek is not so crazy after all, and that Osama has returned and is making an army of zombie terrorists. When the group crashes headlong into the growing zombie apocalypse, Dusty and the troops must use their braaaaaiiinnssss to find and destroy the root of the zombie insurgency before it infests the rest of the world.

“Osombie” is directed, written, produced and performed by people you have likely never heard of, but that will hardly matter once you get a look at the trailer, which can be found on YouTube by keywording “Osombie.” The film also has its own Facebook page, of course.

If there is any justice in the world, this classic will soon be in the can and on the screen.
