A soldier in Hawaii was arrested Wednesday on charges related to the alleged sextortion of a minor, according to news reports.

Christopher Fox, a soldier assigned to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, was arrested by federal agents, Hawaii News Now reported

Fox started following a 12-year-old girl on Instagram and Snapchat last year, according to court documents. They communicated on social media and eventually on FaceTime.

He asked her to send nude photos of herself, the court documents say, and he sent nude videos of himself to her.  She refused at first, and he threatened to post personal information about her on social media if she didn’t do as he asked.

She was scared, and sent nude photos of herself to Fox, according to the court documents, then she later blocked him from contacting her further. He created a new account, posted the nude photos of her and invited her friends to follow it, say the court documents posted by KHON 2.  Her school found out about it and contacted her parents.

The case was taken to British and U.S. federal authorities, who launched an investigation.

Fox faces five counts related to transferring obscene material to a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, cyberstalking, possession of child pornography and distributing child pornography.

The soldier’s rank and unit affiliation were not immediately available.
