Military Times is now accepting applications for the 17th annual Service Members of the Year Awards.

Whether it's taking the time to improve their communities or conducting outstanding work while on the job, Military Times wants to honor exceptional men and women in uniform.

Anyone — parents, fellow service members, supervisors, commanding officers — can nominate a soldier, Marine, sailor, airman or Coast Guardsman by March 31 via smoy.militarytimes.com. Nominators will be asked to provide descriptions of your nominee's on- and off-duty accomplishments.

Past winners range from a soldier who reunites veterans with their lost medals to a Marine who took out an enemy gunner in hand-to-hand combat in Afghanistan.

The editors of Army Times, Marine Corps Times, Navy Times and Air Force Times will select the winners, along with honorable mentions. Winners will be flown to Washington, D.C., this summer for an all-expenses paid trip, culminating in a ceremony with top brass and members of Congress. Each winner will also receive a scholarship award covering tuition and fees from Kaplan University.
