1945: Germans tried to stave off the Allied advance in the Netherlands by flooding Beemster and Fencer. The U.S. Seventh Army secured Nuremburg. On the occasion of Adolf Hitler's 59th birthday, Soviet artillery gave him and Berlin an appropriately sized salute. U.S. forces secured the Motobu Peninsula on Okinawa.
