Tune up your run with pre-marathon seminars
Looking for an extra edge in the months leading up to the Marine Corps Marathon or another big race?
If you’re a military runner in the Washington area, make room in your training schedule for a series of running seminars at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va.
The monthly seminars will feature tips and advice from long-distance running experts. Each seminar will begin at 12 p.m. in the Barber Physical Activity Center at Quantico. They are open to service members, family members and civilian employees in the Washington, D.C. region.
Seminars include:
April 4 — proper footwear and mechanics. Hosted by Jeff Van Horn, a sports medicine and exercise science expert.
May 2 — Marathon and half-marathon training. Hosted by Bret Schmidt, Marine Corps Marathon operations manager.
June 6 — Nutrition for long-distance running. Hosted by Tracy Bowman, Semper Fit dietician.
To learn more, check out Quantico’s Marine Corps Community Services Web site or contact fitness event coordinator Ira Seth at (703) 432-0592 or by e-mail.
If you can’t make it to one of the Quantico sessions, there are also online training guides and a marathon pace chart available on the Marine Corps Marathon site.
The 32nd Marine Corps Marathon will be held Oct. 28 in Arlington, Va. Open registration begins May 9, but early registration is now available to service members; military entries must be received by April 30.
