Anthony Hatala after one too many moves to a new base, Military Traveler is more than a quick reference base-apedia. “It’s more like Yelp for the military,” says Hatala. It comes packed with helpful phone numbers and basic base info, but the user-shared content — such as ratings and reviews for on-base restaurants and uploaded photos — is what really makes this app sing.

Uniformity

Who hasn’t fretted over the all the finer points of putting together the finery of a dress uniform? And what long-suffering spouse hasn’t had to endure all the fussing that goes with it? Navy spouse Terrence Goggin figured he’d lend a hand by creating Uniformity, “an app that reduces all that trivia to what you really need to know.” It includes a rack builder, cross-referenced illustrations for every Navy uniform, updated grooming regs and even a handy ruler.

BAH Rate Query

A simple app for a simple job, BAH Rate Query was born when then-Army Maj. Gregory Motes found out he’d been promoted. “I was curious how much my BAH would rise,” he writes on his FA53.com website. “Went to the official website and looked it up, but decided this would be a good app to create.” Such is the apparent ease with which this app-making machine cranks out new titles.
