Before he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Jimi Hendrix enlisted in the Army. Hendrix found himself in trouble with police at age 19 and signed up to avoid jail, training as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. His platoon sergeant filed a report that said, "He has no interest whatsoever in the Army. ... It is my opinion that Private Hendrix will never come up to the standards required of a soldier." He was honorably discharged in 1962 on the basis of unsuitability.
