Bonuses are calculated using multipliers in three zones: A, B and C, which roughly equate with first-term, second-term and career airmen definitions.
Zone A comprises airmen re-enlisting with between 17 months and six years of service. Zone B comprises those with six to 10 years of service. Zone C comprises those with 10 to 14 years.
A new "experimental" Zone E SRB has been created for explosive ordnance disposal airmen (3E8X1) with 18 to 20 years of service. It’s the first time the service has used its authorization to offer bonuses to airmen with 16 or more years of ser vice. The multiple is 3.0.
The bonus is calculated by taking one month’s base pay, multiplying it by the number of years and fractions of years (whole months divided by 12) of additional obligated service and then multiplying that product by the SRB multiple. Airmen get 50 percent of the bonus in a lump-sum payment a few weeks after re-enlisting, with the remaining 50 percent paid in equal increments on the anniversaries of the re-enlistment.
