The Wilderness Challenge is a two-day team competition for all five branches of the armed forces. Each fall, teams enter the event held along the New and Gauley rivers about an hour south of West Virginia’s capital, Charleston.
It consists of several races spanning about more than 50 miles in all: 19 on foot, 14 pedaling a bike, 21 paddling a kayak or raft, and a half-mile swimming.

This year's challenge saw 54 teams from every branch of the military competing in two-day race through the forests, rivers and hills of West Virginia.
