Each year, Military Times honors an “Everyday Hero” from each service branch of the military.
“Everyday Heroes” are people whose daily actions reflect remarkable commitment to their country, involvement in their communities and compassion to their fellow service members.
Established in 2001, the Service Members of the Year (SMOY) Awards have steadily grown into a much-anticipated event. While SMOY retains its grassroots spirit—nominations are received from readers of the Military Times newsweeklies—the Awards ceremony honoring the winners is one of Washington’s A-List events, attended by Congressional, military and community leaders.
