RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Several dozen military families in western South Dakota have now a Christmas tree.

The Rapid City Journal(http://bit.ly/1yANatU ) reports that 175 families received a free tree Friday. Families of deployed airmen and women had first priority in receiving a tree, but the event was open to anyone serving at Ellsworth Air Force Base, soldiers from the South Dakota National Guards and Douglas School ROTC cadets.

Air Force Master Sgt. Tyler Conner picked a tree Friday. He says he believes the tree tradition is one of the best parts of being in the military.

Christmas SPIRIT Foundation donated the trees. The nonprofit provides free trees to military families across the country.
