VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Navy has identified a SEAL from New York City who died while training in a swimming pool at a base in Virginia.

The Navy says 32-year-old Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Seth Cody Lewis of Queens was assigned to an East Coast-based Special Warfare Unit.

Lewis and another SEAL were found unresponsive Friday at the bottom of the Combat Swimming Training Facility at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story. Personnel use the facility for fitness training.

Lt. David Lloyd tells media outlets that the second SEAL remains in critical condition.

Lloyd says an investigation is continuing.

Lewis had served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2001 to 2005. He enlisted in the Navy in December 2006.
