CHICAGO — A federal judge is scheduled to hold a detention hearing for a 22-year-old Illinois Army National Guard soldier accused of plotting a terrorist attack on a military facility with his suburban Chicago cousin.

Prosecutors must offer proof Monday in Chicago for why Hasan Edmonds should remain jailed.

A complaint unsealed last week says he and his 29-year-old cousin, Jonas Edmonds, planned an attack on a U.S. military facility in northern Illinois. Jonas Edmonds isn't challenging his detention.

The complaint says Hasan Edmonds sent an Internet message to an undercover FBI agent in January saying he hoped to travel to the Middle East. But if he couldn't, he allegedly wrote he wanted to "cause as much damage and mayhem as possible" in the U.S.

An arraignment date hasn't been set.
