Nemo Equipment, a favorite tent and sleep system maker within the special-operations community, is dipping a clenched fist into the blade pool with two new hatchet/multitools.

The Point Man Ax is a tomahawk built with special operators in mind "to carry on the hip to use as an alternative to a knife or in a breaching capacity," Nemo president Cam Brensinger told Military Times at the recent Outdoor Retailer expo in Salt Lake City.

Coming in 13- and 17-inch lengths, the Point Man boasts a forward-angled head to the front and a tanto spike on the back end. A cut inside the head offers a hex-nut tool.

The heftier Multi Mission Ax is more of a forcible entry tool, with built-in pry bar and seatbelt cutter on the base of the handle and a hammer on the back end of the blade head. It also has a hex tool cut into the blade. It comes in 15- and 19-inch models.

Nemo will offer add-on pieces for the Multi Mission, including a sheet metal cutter.

Both axes come with a sophisticated, molded belt-carry sheath with a lock-in-place, yet quick-release, design.

"We just had our first production run in the past two weeks, and SEAL Team Four is testing them right now," Brensinger says.

The axes are designed by toolsmith Christopher Aiston, chief of Outland Equipment, who has made a name for himself designing breaching tools for firefighters.

With exclusive discount pricing for current service members, Nemo is selling the Point Man for $355 and $375. The Multi Mission Ax runs for $420 and $440. Civilians will pay about $100 more. Email Nemo for details on how to order.
