DENVER — Congress could wrap up an agreement soon to allow the VA to spend another $625 million to finish an over-budget hospital outside Denver.

The House could vote Wednesday to raise the project spending cap, one of two steps Congress must take to approve the money. The Senate already approved raising the cap.

The second step is allowing the Veterans Affairs Department to transfer the $625 million from other accounts. The House and Senate were both expected to vote on that Wednesday

Congressman Mike Coffman said Tuesday the VA probably won't be required to take some of the money out of its multimillion-dollar employee bonuses, as the the chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee proposed.

Coffman says he likes the idea but doubts the Senate would go along.
