31, of North Creek, N.Y.; assigned to B Battery, 4th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, based in Baumholder, Germany; killed while on patrol when his vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade Sept. 15 in Baghdad.

Staff Sgt. Kevin C. Kimmerly was always there when you needed him. “He was a real down-to-earth guy,” said friend Steve Studnicky. “There was never anything he wouldn’t do for you.”

Kimmerly, 31, of North Creek, N.Y., was killed Sept. 15 in a grenade attack in Baghdad. He was stationed in Baumholder, Germany.

Kimmerly and his twin brother played basketball in high school, where they were known as the “twin towers.” “It’s a small town, and the news has started spreading and the sadness with that,” Studnicky said. “It really — for us — puts a face on Iraq.”
