  • Marine Sgt. Jonathan W. Lambert, 28, of New Site, Miss.; assigned to the Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died June 1 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, as a result of injuries he suffered May 26 when his Humvee rolled over in Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. Atanacio Haro Marin, 27, of Baldwin Park, Calif.; assigned to Battery C, 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas; killed by enemy south of Balad, Iraq, June 3.

  • Army Pfc. Branden F. Oberleitner, 20, of Worthington, Ohio; assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, Fort Campbell, Ky.; killed by a rifle-fired grenade in Fallujah, Iraq, as he returned from a dismounted patrol.

  • Army Sgt. Travis L. Burkhardt, 26, of Edina, Mo.; assigned to 170th Military Police Company, Fort Lewis, Wash.; killed on June 6 in Baghdad, Iraq. Burkhardt was part of an escort mission when the vehicle he was in hit a curb along the road and rolled over.

  • Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class David Sisung, 21, of Phoenix; assigned to the aircraft carrier Nimitz, home-ported in San Diego; died June 6 of a non-combat related injury while in the Persian Gulf.

  • Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Doyle W. Bollinger Jr., 21, of Poteau, Okla.; assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133, Gulfport, Miss.; killed in Iraq when a piece of unexploded ordnance accidentally detonated in the area he was working.

  • Army Pvt. Jesse M. Halling, 19, of Indianapolis, Ind.; assigned to 401st Military Police Company, Fort Hood, Texas; killed in Tikrit, Iraq, June 7. Halling was at a military police station when his unit received rifle-propelled grenade and small arms fire.

  • Army Sgt. Michael E. Dooley, 23, of Pulaski, Va.; assigned to 1st Squadron, 3rd Armor Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.; killed on June 8 in Asad, Iraq. Dooley was manning a traffic control point when a vehicle came up to the checkpoint and two individuals got out requesting a medic for their sick friend. Immediately following the request for help, they opened fire on Dooley which resulted in his death.

  • Army Pfc. Gavin L. Neighbor, 20, of Somerset, Ohio; assigned to Company C, 3rd Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; killed by a rocket-propelled grenade in Baghdad, Iraq. Neighbor was off work from guard duty June 10, resting in a bus, when a rocket-propelled grenade round was fired from a nearby house. He died as a result of his wounds.

  • Army Spc. John K. Klinesmith Jr., 25, of Stockbridge, Ga.; was assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.; died June 12 in Fallujah, Iraq. Klinesmith was last seen wading in the lake on the palace compound in Fallujah on June 12. A search was launched and Klinesmith’s body was discovered at the lake.

  • Army Staff Sgt. Andrew R. Pokorny, 30, of Naperville, Ill.; assigned to 3rd Air Defense Artillery, 3rd Armor Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.; died June 13 in a vehicle accident in Asad, Iraq. On the way back from patrol, Pokorny’s M113 armored personnel carrier threw a track and went over a 4-foot drop-off on the side of the road, causing the vehicle to roll over.

  • Marine Pfc. Ryan R. Cox, 19, of Derby, Kan.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; died June 15 as a result of wounds received from a non-combat weapon discharge near Najaf, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Joseph D. Suell, 24, of Lufkin, Texas; assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters and Service Battery, 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill, Okla.; killed June 16 in Todjie, Iraq. He died from a non-combat related cause.

  • Army Pvt. 2 Shawn D. Pahnke, 25, of Shelbyville, Ind.; assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany; killed by enemy fire in Baghdad on June 16. Pahnke was on patrol when he received a fatal gunshot wound.

  • Army Sgt. Michael L. Tosto, 24, of Apex, N.C.; assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Smith Barracks, Germany; died June 17, at Camp Wolf, Kuwait. He died from a non-combat related cause.

  • Army Pvt. 2 Robert L. Frantz, 19, of San Antonio, Texas; assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Ray Barracks, Germany; killed June 17, in Baghdad, Iraq. He was on guard duty when a local resident threw a grenade over the wall. Frantz died of his injuries.

  • Army Pfc. Michael R. Deuel, 21, of Nemo, S.D.; assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; killed June 18, in Baghdad, Iraq. Deuel received fatal gun shot wounds while on guard duty at a propane distribution center.

  • Army Staff Sgt. William T. Latham, 29, of Kingman, Ariz.; assigned to Troop E, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.; died June 18, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Latham was participating in a raid at a suspected arms market in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on May 19 when he was hit by shrapnel. Latham was evacuated back to the United States where he died of his wounds.

  • Army Spc. Paul T. Nakamura, 21, of Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; assigned to 437th Medical Company, based in Colorado Springs, Colo.; killed by enemy fire on June 19 in Iskandariyah, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Orenthial J. Smith, 21, of Allendale, S.C.; assigned to Company A, 123rd Main Support Battalion, Dexheim, Germany; killed by enemy fire on June 22, in Baghdad, Iraq. Smith was in a convoy that was ambushed.

  • Army Spc. Cedric L. Lennon, 32, of West Blocton, Ala.; assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Polk, La.; died June 24 in Baghdad, Iraq, from a non-combat-related cause.

    June 25, 2003
  • Navy Interior Communications Electrician 1 Thomas E. Retzer, 30, of San Diego, Calif.; assigned to SEAL Team 2, Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base, Va.; killed on June 25, 2003, in Afghanistan.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Gregory E. MacDonald, 29, of Washington, D.C.; assigned to Bravo Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Frederick, Md.; died when the light armored vehicle he was traveling in rolled over June 25 in Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Andrew F. Chris, 25, of San Diego; assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Ga.; killed June 25 in Iraq. Chris was fatally wounded in combat operations in hostile enemy territory.

  • Navy Seaman Joshua McIntosh, 22, of Kingman, Ariz.; assigned to the Third Battalion, Seventh Marine Regiment, 29 Palms, Calif.; died June 26 in Karbala, Iraq, from a non-hostile gunshot wound.

  • Army Spc. Corey A. Hubbell, 20, of Urbana, Ill.; assigned to Company B, 46th Engineer Battalion, Fort Rucker, Ala.; died June 26 in Camden Yards, Kuwait, from a non-combat related cause.

  • Puerto Rico Army National Guard Spc. Richard P. Orengo, 32, of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico; assigned to the 755th Military Police Company, Arecibo, Puerto Rico; killed by enemy fire June 26 in Najif, Iraq.

  • Army Cpl. Tomas Sotelo Jr., 20, of Houston, Texas; assigned to Headquarters Troop, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Polk, La.; killed by enemy fire June 27 in Baghdad, Iraq. Sotelo was traveling in a convoy when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his vehicle.

  • Army Spc. Kelvin E.F. Gutierrez, 21, of Anasco, Puerto Rico; assigned to Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; killed in a vehicle accident on June 28, 2003, in Afghanistan.

  • Army Sgt. 1st Class Gladimir Philippe, 37, of Linden, N.J.; assigned to Battery B, 3rd Battalion, 18th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill, Okla.; killed in action in Iraq sometime between June 25 and June 28.

  • Army Pfc. Kevin C. Ott, 27, of Columbus, Ohio; assigned to Battery B, 3rd Battalion, 18th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill, Okla.; killed in action in Iraq sometime between June 25 and June 28.

  • Army Sgt. Timothy M. Conneway, 22, of Enterprise, Ala.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Ga.; died June 28 as a result of enemy fire in Baghdad. Conneway was traveling in a government vehicle in Baghdad June 26 when an explosive device detonated and struck the vehicle. He died two days later.
