Died February 01, 2006 serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom

23, of Lincoln, Neb.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.; killed Feb. 1 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Baghdad. Also killed were Spc. Marlon A. Bustamante and Pfc. Caesar S. Viglienzone.

Funeral to be held at West Point for Lincoln soldier

LINCOLN, Neb. — Funeral services for a Lincoln soldier killed last week in Iraq have been set.

Services for 1st Lt. Garrison Avery are at 10 a.m. Monday at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., said Rev. Dean O’Bryan, pastor at Trinity Baptist Church, where the family attends.

Avery will be buried in the West Point Cemetery.

Avery and two other soldiers were killed Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Baghdad. Avery is a 2004 West Point graduate and 2000 graduate of Lincoln High School.

Details for a memorial service in Lincoln are pending, O’Bryan said.
