Utah soldier dies in Iraq

SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah solider was killed in Baghdad on March 3 when an improvised explosive device exploded under his vehicle, Utah Army Reserve spokesman Claude McKinney said.

Spc. Brandon A. Parr, 25, of West Valley City, was on active duty, assigned to the 630th Military Police Company, 759th Military Police Battalion, of the 89th Military Police Brigade out of Fort Hood, Texas.

No additional details about the incident in Iraq were available, said McKinney, who is with the 96th Regional Readiness Command.

Funeral arrangements are being planned and Parr’s family has asked for privacy, McKinney said.

Parr is the 16th Utahn to die in U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan since March 2003, according to information posted on the Web site www.icasualties.org.
