Louisiana Marine killed in Iraq

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — A Marine from Louisiana was killed this week fighting in Iraq’s Najaf province, the Marine Corps said on Saturday.

Lance Cpl. Larry L. Wells, 22, of Mt. Hermon, La., died on Thursday, officials said.

Wells was a rifleman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

He joined the Marine Corps in June 2002. He was killed during his second deployment to Iraq.

“I’m proud of my brother for everything he’s done,” his brother, Chad Wells, told WWL-TV of New Orleans.

Joni Fanguy, his mother, called him a “well-rounded man.”
