Army confirms death of soldier who grew up in Idaho

BOISE, Idaho — The Defense Department says it has confirmed the death of an Army soldier who grew up in Idaho Falls.

Officials say Spc. Vincent Kamka, 23, died Oct. 4 in Bayji, Iraq. Kamka was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat team, 82nd Airborne Division. The unit is based in Fort Bragg, N.C.

The department did not release details of the death, but says it remains under investigation.

Kamka’s parents say their son believed in duty to God, country and family.

Kamka, now living in Everett, Wash., graduated from Idaho Falls Skyline High School in 2003. He has three brothers who also serve in the military.
