Army Staff Sgt. Marc J. Small
Died February 12, 2009 serving during Operation Enduring Freedom29, of Collegeville, Pa.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.; died Feb. 13 at Faramuz, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and small arms fire.
Fallen Green Beret ‘had it all’

As a boy, Marc J. Small was the rambunctious type who wasn’t afraid to get dirty, said grandmother Louella Wagner. He was always very helpful, she said, and it was only fitting he’d become a medic in the Army.
“He was a fine young man. He had good goals, he had good intentions,” she said. “I just was really impressed with the way he turned out.”
Small, 29, of Collegeville, Pa., died Feb. 12 in Faramuz of wounds suffered from rocket and small-arms fire. He was a 1997 high school graduate and was assigned to Fort Bragg. He earned his green beret in 2007.
“Marc was fondly regarded by all who knew him as mischievous, playful, and possessing the biggest, most giving heart of anyone they know,” his family said in a statement.
“He had it all. He was funny, he was a good athlete, he was good looking,” said Murray Small, a family friend.
He was fan of the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers. He would tailgate at Philadelphia Eagles games any chance he got.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Murray and Karen his mother and stepfather, Mary and Peter MacFarland and fiancée Amanda Charney.
