Died September 05, 2009 serving during Operation Enduring Freedom

28, of Pohnpei, Micronesia; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.; died Sept. 5 in Asadabad, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his vehicle using small arms and recoilless rifle fires.

In one photograph, Army Sgt. Youvert Loney, a father of two, stands straight and tall in his uniform, holding his young son. The baby boy wears a soldier’s camouflage hat.

Another photo shows Loney sporting a hooded sweatshirt and baseball cap. A rocky, scenic slope serves as a backdrop.

On a MySpace page filled with photos of Loney and his family, “I love you” is written to him 95 times in one post.

Loney, 28, of Pohnpei, Micronesia, was killed Sept. 5 in Abad, Afghanistan, when his vehicle was attacked. He was based at Fort Carson, Colo.

The Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs release says Loney is survived by his wife, two children and father.

He was the 34th Micronesian to be killed in a U.S. war since 2003.

A man identified only as Pfc. Cabrera wrote in an online message board that Loney remained deeply missed by his platoon.

“It definitely hasn’t been the same here,” Cabrera wrote. “We miss you SGT and you will not be forgotten.”

Loney enlisted in 2005. He was deployed to Iraq from October 2006 to December 2007. He was sent to Afghanistan in June.
