27, of Birmingham, Ala.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.; died Sept. 17 at FOB Ripley, Uruzgan province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small-arms fire.
