Carter says U.S. needs better PTSD treatment after Ft. Lauderdale shooting
Defense Secretary Ash Carter said the U.S. has not done enough to help veterans deal with post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health issues. His statements follow the shooting at the Fort Lauderdale airport, where former soldier Esteban Santiago killed five people and wounded six others. Federal law enforcement officials said Santiago was undergoing treatment for mental health problems, and complaining that he was hearing voices. He has been charged with federal counts after the shooting, which could carry the death penalty.
