A Fort Bragg soldier was arrested and charged with child abuse after overdosing in a drug store parking lot with his 4-year-old stepdaughter in the car with him, reported The Fayetteville Observer in North Carolina, citing police documents.
Jessie Andrew Davis was charged with misdemeanor child abuse and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, according to an arrest warrant cited in the Observer.
According to police, when emergency responders rescued the 4-year-old, it was 90 degrees outside and the girl was “drenched in sweat.”
Davis told police he used narcotics before losing consciousness, according to arrest documents cited in the news report.
Davis’ bail was set at $25,000.
His rank was not immediately available. A spokesman for the 82nd Airborne Division confirmed Davis is a soldier, but is not serving with the 82nd, the Observer reported.
