A soldier at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, was charged with second-degree rape on Monday after being accused of groping his former supervisor and taking graphic pictures of her while she was sleeping.

The assault reportedly took place early Sunday after the 33-year-old man went out drinking with the victim and victim’s husband in Tacoma, Washington, according to The News Tribune. After drinking, the man went back with the couple to their house to sleep in a guest bedroom.

The victim said she woke up on the couch after feeling someone inappropriately touching her, The News Tribune reported. Her clothing was pulled down to her knees, and she said she saw the defendant taking pictures on his cell phone.

She screamed for her husband, and he came running. He told detectives “the defendant looked terrified and kept saying he was sorry,” according to The News Tribune.

The husband demanded to see the man’s phone and noticed two photos marked for deletion, but he couldn’t tell what the images were and gave the phone back to the soldier. He then ordered him to leave their home, according to The News Tribune.

The soldier was arrested on post hours later and claimed that he woke the woman up so she could go to bed, and that she started screaming and demanding to see his phone.

“When asked why she would say what she did, he said he believes she has hallucinations due to drinking alcohol and taking prescription drugs,” according to The News Tribune.

The soldier admitted to drinking heavily that night, according to the newspaper, including three glasses of wine, three glasses of whiskey, a glass of rum and a mixed drink.

More charges may be added after investigators analyze the cell phone, according to Pierce County prosecutors.
