NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Air National Guard has its first female general.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that during a ceremony Saturday at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock, 55-year-old Tamhra Hutchins-Frye of Hot Springs Village was promoted to brigadier general.

Hutchins-Frye joined the Arkansas Air National Guard in 1984 and is now the director of joint staff. She has been deployed once — to Afghanistan in 2013 — and said she hopes for at least one more deployment and to get one more star on her uniform, making her a two-star general.

The first female brigadier general on the Army side of the Arkansas National Guard is Gen. Patricia Anslow, who received her promotion in 2012.
