Additional tests of the water onboard the carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower show no more signs of E. Coli and coliform bacteria, the Virginian-Pilot reported.

A test conducted earlier Thursday initially revealed the contaminants.

The ship’s water, used for fountains, dining facilities and restrooms, was locked down in response to the positive test, Norfolk Naval Shipyard spokeswoman Terri Davis said in the report.

Water coolers are being provided onboard the ship and at the pier while additional tests are conducted, the report said.

Water samples were also taken at the pier and from buildings adjacent to the carrier. Those results, so far, have come back negative for contaminants, the report said.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the contamination.

Davis said that routine tests at other locations aboard Norfolk Naval Shipyard have not revealed any contamination.

The Ike returned to Portsmouth over a year ago and has been completing periodic maintenance and readying for work-ups.
