A recent Marine Corps basic training graduate who once weighed 290 pounds lost more than 100 pounds over two years to meet Marine enlistment standards. The U.S. currently has hundreds of troops deployed in eastern Syria as part of a coalition fighting the Islamic State group. The activation comes as part of the Corps' Force Design 2030 recalibration toward agile logistics in the contested island chains of the Pacific. The two men allegedly conspired to recruit and lead an expeditionary mercenary force — made up of D.C.'s unhoused population — to overthrow the island. Service members on ships in the Caribbean as well as National Guard members deployed to cities within the U.S. will get their turkey, too.
