The Defense Department recently announced new restrictions on service members transferring their GI Bill benefits to a dependent spouse or child.

Anyone who’s already put in the paperwork to transfer benefits is grandfathered in, so the new rules won’t apply for them. But for everyone else, troops with more than 16 years of service will no longer be able to request a GI Bill transfer starting next year. Check out our handy guide to the changes here.
