What are the most in-demand civilian career fields?
Answer:
There are a lot of shortages, for quite a number of reasons.
The U.S. and many parents have been pushing the “you need to get a college degree” standard for so long that there is significant demand for skilled laborers without a degree. We’re also up to our eyeballs with young, debt-laden graduates, most of whom have no intention of working with their hands.
My short list would be:
1) Professionals with degrees in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and math)
2) Trade & craft workers, such as welders, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, machinists, etc.
3) Truck drivers with a commercial driver’s license
4) Automotive and diesel mechanics
5) Certified information technology professionals
6) Nurses with a 4-year degree or above
7) Law enforcement and corrections officers.
