Tom Berenger's military-themed credits have spanned much of his 40-year acting career. They've taken the actor across genres and eras, from Oliver Stone's take on Vietnam to the fields of Gettysburg to the "Rough Riders" of the Spanish-American War.

So it's fitting that Berenger will receive the GI Choice Award during this year's GI Film Festival in Washington, D.C. He'll be an honored guest throughout the event, which runs May 24-28 and will screen more than 50 films over its final four days.

It's also fitting that Berenger has at least one other stop on his itinerary for his trip to the nation's capital: He's planning to participate in the Rolling Thunder motorcycle ride May 28, the day after his award presentation during the festival's Cinematic Salute to the Troops.

Next up: He'll star in the World War II drama Wunderland, a feature film that began as a short by director Luke Schuetzle. The short screened at the 2013 GI Film Festival.
