Heading out of town Monday for SHOT Show's media day on the range, a striking scene greeted us: A massive billboard o' boots.

The boots in question were Danner's new Descender line, which won't be ready to ship until July or available to the general public until the fall. It's designed specifically for vertical insertion, something that could appeal not only to SWAT personnel, but perhaps military special operators, too.

Danner is emphasizing heavily the design of the Descender's patent pending outsole. It features an abrasion-resistant compound known as V-4 in the medial arch, allowing operators more control whle dropping. The low-oil leather and mesh upper is designed to prevent leaving residue behind on ropes.

The boot will come in 4 1/2-inch and 8-inch cuts, and are available with either a waterproof Gore-Tex lining or a  moisture-wicking mesh lining for hot-weather comfort. Color options thus far include canteen green and black. The suggested retail prices range from $179.95 for the 4 1/2-inch model to $199.95 for the high boot.
