Daniel Defense wants owners of its recently-released Delta 5 bolt-action rifles to “immediately" stop using the rifle, out of fears that the firing pin cross pins could break and cause an unintentional discharge.

Affected are rifles manufactured before September 20, 2019.

Daniel Defense warns that broken firing cross pins could allow "the firing pin to move freely within the bolt assembly”— seriously compromising safe usage.

The company released the new bolt gun — the first for the Georgia-based AR-15 maker — to great fanfare during the 2019 SHOT Show in Las Vegas. With a saturated AR market and dwindling sales market wide, the D-5 was seen by many as a lifeline for a company that has seen its dominance in the MSR market fade.

Owners with D-5 rifles affected by the issue can visit the company’s website and check the serial number to find out if their rifles need servicing. The problematic pins will be fixed for free.

So far, the company says they have not received reports of firing pin failures, but owners are asked to “please take this Safety Notification Replacement Campaign seriously."
