Corps investigating Marines in Snapchat videos with racial slurs

An investigation is underway into Snapchat videos that purportedly show Marines yelling racial slurs, Corps officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The videos show at least two men using the N-word while drinking. A black activist and teacher in New Jersey tweeted the videos to the Marine Corps on Nov. 18, asking, “Is this commonplace @USMC?”

“We can confirm some of the individuals portrayed in the videos are U.S. Marines,” III Marine Expeditionary Force said in a statement. “The actions depicted in the videos are not in keeping with the high standard of conduct to which we hold all our Marines. We will thoroughly investigate the matter and take appropriate action based on the results of the investigation.”

III MEF did not specify how many of the people filmed are Marines, or what disciplinary or administrative action they might face.
