Midwest Industries is well known for providing a lot of bang for the buck, and has a line up of pretty affordable AR15 equipment, especially their AR15 rails.  However, one thing people have been commenting on in the weapon industry is the glut of rails.  It seems there are rails from just about every company you've heard of, and plenty you haven't.  1913 Picatinny spec quad rails are super popular, but most of the cheaper ones tend to be on the heavy side, and most of the real estate on the rails sits unused.  Even the lightest weight, most expensive rails could obviously go on a diet without the rail slabs on the side.

The aluminum Midwest Industries MI #17-SS drop in rail is 6061 series aluminum, type 3 hard coat anodized, and is smooth on the sides and bottom.  The sides and bottom allow for the owner to drop in rail sections where they are needed or wanted, and the blister packed rail comes with three rail pieces (2 small and one larger piece), and five built in QD mounts.  Available sizes include carbine (shown here), mid length, and rifle length.  While this is all nice, what makes this little beast impressive is how light it is.  Coming in at 5.7 ounces without the side or bottom rails attached, this is one of the lightest weight drop in handguards on the market.  A check of the BCM website shows this to have a street price of $134.95 for a carbine length, which is also one of the more affordable quality handguards around.
