This morning, OFFduty editor Amanda Miller and photo ninja Mike Morones made the drive to East Coast Strength and Power in Stafford, Va., before I had even gotten out of bed. They were there at 7a.m. to meet Daniel Rodriguez, the combat vet turned YouTube star who is trying to walk on to a college football team. Rodriguez agreed to demo one of our PT365 workouts, which will hit newsstands March 5.

Here's what Amanda had to say:

Improvised battlefield workouts taught Daniel Rodriguez that bodyweight training beat lifting. "It centered on me and gravity and balance, and it made me faster. It made me stronger. I started jumping higher," the former Army sergeant says in this YouTube video he made to woo college football coaches.

When we told PT365's trainer extraordinaire Bob Thomas we had Daniel on the hook for a photo shoot, Bob did hypnotic regression back to his own college football days at Iowa State and crafted a new workout inspired by Daniel's warrior spirit - "Valhalla" after the ancient Nordic hall presided over by Odin where Viking heroes went after dying in combat. "Those in Valhalla would train for the day that they marched out for the world's last great battle," Bob says. "This is a warrior's workout and not for the novice."

Get the full workout on newsstands March 5. We'll have it here soon after.
