The island of Mindanao has been reeling from the effects of heavy rain, displacing an estimated 795,000 people. No one was injured, but a KC-130J apparently sustained damage from the mishap in Arizona. The fleet of KC-46A Pegasus tankers may start arriving in 2029. The crew was practicing touch-and-go landings at Sioux Gateway Airport when the plane's front landing gear failed to deploy. The last KC-10 Extender tanker jet is scheduled to retire in September 2024. A new restriction bars airmen from turning on the autopilot when flying at an altitude of less than 2,000 feet at night, or when flying in bad weather. However, much remains undecided over how to field an advanced refueling aircraft the service now calls the next-generation aerial refueling system. The Air Force is celebrating 100 years of air refueling by performing flyovers across the country. The Air Force wants its next tankers to be able to survive in the contested airspace likely in the nation's next war. “Our mobility fleet can no longer operate forward with relative impunity,” Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said at the AFA Warfare Symposium.
