A soldier who died in Afghanistan in a noncombat-related vehicle incident on Monday was identified as Staff Sgt. David Thomas Brabander, the Army announced on Tuesday.

Two other U.S. service members were injured in the incident.

Brabander, 24, was an airborne infantryman and squad leader assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division with U.S. Army Alaska at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

Brabander, who was from Anchorage, died in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan. He deployed with the brigade in September in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, according to a news release.

He enlisted in the Army in March 2012 and had been assigned to U.S. Army Alaska since November 2015. He was previously stationed in Hawaii, the release said.

The incident is under investigation.
