A full military funeral will be held in Oakland County for a K-9 veteran.

WHMI-FM reports military war dog Shaman died last month and will be buried in the Michigan War Dog Memorial Cemetery on Sept. 6. The German shepherd served in Iraq and was a patrol and narcotics detection dog. Shaman retired after being diagnosed with a spinal cord disease.

Army Staff Sgt. Dennis Asher of Howell was Shaman's handler.

Veterans and K-9 supporters volunteer to run the war dog memorial. Its director says the volunteer group is fundraising to purchase headstones and is working on the arrangements for Shaman's noon ceremony.
